Recently, we performed the first-ever lung Decortication surgery in the Barak Valley at Silchar Valley Hospital. I would like to provide some background information on the patient. Our patient, a 38-year-old male, experienced significant discomfort due to an infection in his left lung. Despite seeking various treatments and multiple medical opinions, he found no relief.
After enduring these symptoms for some time, he came to me seeking help. We welcomed him and conducted a series of diagnostic tests, including a CT scan. The results revealed that his left lung had shrunk and was enveloped by a layer resembling debris. This layer was the primary cause of his discomfort, breathlessness, and severe nocturnal coughing. While the symptoms suggested a potential case of tuberculosis, we also noted an unusual tilt of his neck to the left.
My team and I dedicated considerable time to analyzing his case, and ultimately recommending an e-surgery. Given the extent of his pain, the patient and his family agreed to our suggestion.
I am pleased to report that the surgery was a success. The patient is currently recovering well and was discharged within a few days of surgery. This marks a significant milestone for medical facilities in the Barak Valley, being the first lung Decortication surgery performed at Valley Hospital and Research Centre in Silchar, Assam.
